Our Ontario Backcountry Skills Clinic is conducted with sustainable travel techniques

and “leave no trace” policy

Join our experienced, authentic and certified guides on a hike throughout some of the most picturesque locations on the Niagara Escarpment - learning important backcountry skills that you can apply to your own adventures

Our goal with this experience is to expand your current skills and introduce the outdoor pursuit minded to the world of backcountry travel in a fun and safe environment. There is no pre-requisite for this clinic and all skill levels are invited to join. With these basic skills we hope to inspire you to plan and execute your own trips - be that from backpacking in Algonquin Park, to mountain biking in Peru - this is a taste into the basic skills you’ll need to make any trip happen!

As the seasons change - so does our Skills Clinic to reflect the current season. Winter clinics will include winter camping aspects for example. We fear no weather and will operate in rain, sleet and snow.

Our Ontario Backcountry Skills Clinic includes instruction on topics such as,

  1. Trip preparation & planning, group dynamics & leadership technique 

  2. Map & Compass work, Food prep, Stove handling & use, Water prep,

  3. Outdoor risk management considerations

4.0-6.0 hours // $85 per adult

What you need

  1. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions (rain or shine, we operate in all weather conditions)

  2. Proper hiking footwear (hiking shoes/boots preferred)

  3. Small day pack (5-20L)

  4. Water bottle (Nalgene preferred)

We will provide

  1. All other equipment required for your experience 

  2. Prepared Backcountry style meal
