OSM’s Ontario Backcountry Skills Clinic is a taste of all this and much more

No experience neccessary


As the weather changes - so does our Skills Clinic. We fear no weather and will operate in rain, sleet, cold and snow.

What you need

  1. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions (rain, snow or cold - we operate in all weather conditions)

  2. Proper hiking footwear (hiking shoes/boots preferred)

  3. Water bottle (Nalgene preferred)

Optional

  1. Small daypack (5-20L)

  2. Snowshoes/trekking poles

  3. Head lamp

  4. Trail snacks

We will provide

  1. All other equipment required for your experience

  2. Prepared Backcountry style meal

You will see vehicles parked along side of the road in a long straightaway. You will also pass two parking lots on Pretty River Road, pass them to find us further up the road

Meet and Greet

  1. Waiver completion, gear distribution and meet your guides and teamates

  2. Start hike from trailhead


In-Field Risk Management Obstacle

  1. Complete first obstacle with your guide instructing different group leadership and risk managment considerations


Set up Base Camp

  1. Tent location and setup, set camp

  2. Go over route card and navigation, select route leaders within group and pack new gear for hike

  3. Continue hike from base camp - guests leading


Water Purification stop

  1. Overview of use on different water purification techniques


In-field Risk Management Obstacle

  1. Guests lead and overcome river crossing obstacle


Back to Base Camp

  1. Overivew of stove use, food prep

  2. Guests cook/prepare meal using techinical backcounty stoves and hardware


Completion

  1. Share a meal an overview of experience and reflection
